Here we are going to show you how to develop a raw photo "by hand" instead of by using a software product. Knowing that National Geographic photographers shoot exclusively in raw format tells you something about the goodness of taking photos in that format. There are many good posts out there explaining why you should shoot in raw and the pros and cons about it. In the same line, there is now much more software support for the development of photos in raw format, with great free open source options like RawTherapee, offering even better features than proprietary commercial software.
